I have worked at the University for over 10 years and currently work as a University Teacher. I retired from the NHS in April 2022 after 39 years, although remain registered as a Mental Health Nurse.
Over my career, I have worked in a range of clinical, practice development, teaching and research roles with an emphasis on the care and involvement of people living with dementia.
I am recognised within the University for supporting patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) with people living with dementia in research.

My research focuses on developing and evaluating methods and approaches that enable the knowledge of people with dementia to be heard in health and social care, research and education. I recently coordinated a project where people living with dementia led a research project on , funded by Dementia Engagement and Empowerment Group (DEEP) Dementia Enquirers.
My PhD explored the use of Life Story Work with people living with dementia in care settings. I was a Clinical Research Academy Fellow with the University of ºù«Ӱҵ Centre for Health and Related Research (SCHARR) from September 2015-2017.
As a "70@70" Senior Nurse Research Lead (2019-2022), I was funded by the National Institute for Health Research to improve research capability and capacity amongst NHS nurses. I have collaborated on several research studies, and I am also interested in research ethics. I was previously co-chair for the University, School of Allied Health Professions, Nursing and Midwifery research ethics committee for five years.

I lead a programme of taught content on dementia care on UG, PG pre-registration nursing and Trainee Nurse Associate courses. I have led a dementia-friendly initiative in the Division, which has seen over 200 students and staff become Dementia Friends. I led two Dementia Cafes and have introduced the use of performance into student learning.
I am co-lead for an undergraduate module on Ethics in Practice, and I attained Senior Fellow with the Higher Education Academy in 2022.
I am the module lead for the Research Practice Experience Placement, which aims to develop knowledge, capability and confidence in becoming a Principal Investigator in clinical research. The module forms part of the innovative postgraduate programme in Health and Clinical Research Delivery.

I am an expert member of the Health Research Authority, ºù«Ӱҵ NHS Research Ethics Committee.
I co-chair Dementia Research Advice in South Yorkshire which is a patient and public involvement group where people living with dementia and family carers (former and current) advise researchers on their projects.
