As we come to the end of the year, and the end of the decade, join us in looking back at some of the highlights from the year at ºù«Ӱҵ.
And as 2020 approaches, we’d like to wish you – our alumni, staff, students and friends – a very Happy New Year.
1. A number of alumni were recognised with honours from the Queen, including best-selling author Lee Child and Clive Humby, the creator of the Tesco Club Card.
2. The University celebrated 40 years of Korean studies with a series of events and by adding traditional Korean wood carvings to the campus.
3. Acclaimed local artist Phlegm launched their Mausoleum of Giants exhibition with the support of the University.
4. Our sports teams won ºù«Ӱҵ Varsity for the seventh year in a row, making it 11 wins to 10 over ºù«Ӱҵ Hallam in the competition.
5. We overtook Imperial College London to become the top University in the UK for engineering research income and investment.
6. ºù«Ӱҵ was ranked in the top 100 of the QS World University Rankings, placing 78th in the world and 13th in the UK.
7. Science and engineering students set a UK altitude record with the rocket they designed and built as part of the Spaceport America Cup.
8. Over 300 new ºù«Ӱҵ students received a scholarship this year thanks to your generous donations totalling more than £1 million.
9. The University was ranked top in the north of England for producing employable graduates by the Times Good University Guide.
10. Alumnus Jeremy Grantham and his wife Hanne donated £1.7million to the University to support our research into sustainability and food, water and energy security.
11. SITraN was awarded the Queen's Anniversary Prize for innovation in neuroscience, the highest national honour that recognises outstanding work by UK universities and colleges.
12. 1,000 alumni volunteers from 53 countries gave over 11,000 hours of their time to support 5,300 students and enhance their University experience.
