- Profile
-
Jon has completed a MEng and PhD in Electronic Engineering. His doctoral research focused on the automated identification of urban and natural audio signals, testing a novel time-domain feature extraction method, alongside researching ensemble neural network classifiers.
Jon has been at the AMRC since 2013, starting in the Machining Group as part of the Process Monitoring and Control team. He is now the Senior Theme Lead for Data, Connectivity and AI in the Integrated Manufacturing Group. He has also previously lectured at the AMRC Training Centre. Jon is a regular attendee and contributor at the Centre for Machine Intelligence events. He also organises and hosts webinars for the IET Manufacturing Technical Network.
- Research interests
-
Jon’s research interests include: the capture and use of data from across connected manufacturing processes, understanding how AI can improve day-to-day work as a useful tool, and the potential impacts of the introduction of new technology into manufacturing (and other) environments.
The Data, Connectivity & AI theme is concerned with all elements of enabling Smart Factories, including defining open-source architectures for data collection, data visualisation, computer vision, application of AI and learning algorithms, data security and data science.
