Profile

Rob Graduated in Industrial Engineering in 1986, working initially for General Motors and SKF Bearings, before starting a company manufacturing fishing equipment. He has been involved in the composites industry since 1989, working on manufacturing, tooling and design projects in nearly all market sectors from Formula One to Spacecraft. Rob spent nearly 20 years working for Lola Composites (in its many guises) as quality and technical manager focused on the liaison between design and manufacture, manufacturing race cars for all series including F1, Le Mans (Lola, Porsche, Mercedes and Williams BMW), Indy Car, F3000, Indy Lights and numerous other series. He also had a key role in the manufacture of a number of one off speciality vehicles (Saleen S7 Mustang, Cadillac Cien, Mercedes CLK GTR)  along with approx. 5000 sets of infused bodywork over five years for the McLaren Mercedes SLR programme. In aerospace he has worked on serial production for both military and civil aircraft including helicopters, along with the manufacture of a number of UAV programmes including the Mantis (Telemos) UAV for BAe Systems and responsibility for all the composite tooling and manufacture on the UK Watchkeeper UAV programme. Experience in spacecraft including geostationary satellite bonded structures for Astrium and a Mars lander, along with radar systems and communications systems has given him an almost unique insight into the needs of all these industries. Rob joined the AMRC in 2012, having been associated with the composite centre when working for Lola, since its inception in 2006.
