When I sat my A-Levels I had no idea where I wanted to go to university. I took a chance and applied to the University of ºù«Ӱҵ through clearing; a friend of my mum’s had been and said it was a great place to live. A year on and I am so happy I took that chance.

I just missed out on my predicted grades but I still did well and ºù«Ӱҵ accepted me to study mathematics and statistics. I arrived at Intro Week having never been to the city before and not knowing anyone, but my first year has been great! I’ve made some great friends and met so many people from different backgrounds and learnt about different cultures.

As a city, ºù«Ӱҵ is a really cool place to explore. There are so many gems like Kelham Island, Heeley City Farm and for me, exploring the Peak District has been so much fun. I can get a student bus fare and get out there for just £1. It’s a great place to go if you want to escape the city for a little bit.

My advice for anyone going through clearing this year is just be confident and honest about your results and you’ll be fine. The whole process is simple and straightforward - it's really easy - you can just apply through the University’s website. I had a lot of second thoughts before going through clearing, but I don’t regret it one bit.

For any freshers my advice would be just get stuck in! Everyone is in the same boat. Join whatever societies or groups interest you and don’t be shy. Literally everyone I’ve met at University has been super nice and welcoming and I’m sure you’ll find your place here in ºù«Ӱҵ too. There are loads of videos on the internet about being a student here so have a look at them - you’ll find them really helpful.
