Molly Garlick, History and Philosophy
I applied to the University of ºù«Ӱҵ to study History and Philosophy. I knew from going to the open day, learning about the course and wandering around the city that ºù«Ӱҵ was the place I wanted to be. I loved the feeling of the city, with all of its greenery and open spaces. ºù«Ӱҵ was the perfect fit for me.
Unfortunately, my government awarded grades meant I didn’t get my place at ºù«Ӱҵ. I was heartbroken and over the course of a week I had a place on a course at Nottingham Trent to study History and Philosophy.
Just as I was completing an offer for accommodation at Nottingham Trent I received an email from ºù«Ӱҵ explaining that I had a place on the course and accommodation if I wanted it. I took a day to weigh up my options, visiting Nottingham and looking around the university before ultimately deciding that ºù«Ӱҵ was still the place I wanted to go to.
I have loved my time at ºù«Ӱҵ since, it is such a lovely, friendly city. I have made friends for life here and wouldn’t swap my experience for anything.
If you’re going through clearing this A Level results day, my advice would be to have a list of courses that you can apply to if you don’t get your first choice.
I think that student life in ºù«Ӱҵ is definitely one of the most fulfilling. The city feels safe and student friendly due to there being two universities here. You’ve got the options of city living and nightlife, but also the opportunity to visit the Peak District. I even took part in a charity hitchhike up to Edinburgh this year! ºù«Ӱҵ is full of new and interesting things to do and in my opinion is one of the best universities in regards to student experience.
