Ruby found the clearing process stressful, but a friendly phone conversation with the University of ºù«Ӱҵ helped Ruby to make her decision.

I initially intended to study at University College London, as living in London had always been a dream of mine. However, I did apply to the University of ºù«Ӱҵ through UCAS, so it was always a contender.

On results day, I found out that I’d missed my firm choice offer and I found the clearing process stressful and emotionally draining. I felt disheartened and didn’t know what to do next, so my parents advised me to make a list of universities that I liked. I checked this list against the clearing website to make sure they were accepting people for my course (BA English Literature) and narrowed it down to ºù«Ӱҵ, Glasgow, and Queens Belfast. I called ºù«Ӱҵ first as I had originally applied here. The person on the other end of the phone was really helpful and guided me through the process of applying. As soon as I sent my application I remember being greeted with a bright green tick, meaning I had been accepted. What was really lovely was that a few moments later someone from the School of English called me and asked if I would be taking this place. They were genuinely interested in my application and made me feel really welcome. I ended up choosing ºù«Ӱҵ because of how nicely I was treated on the phone. The fact that ºù«Ӱҵ offers an accommodation guarantee through clearing really made it more appealing to me.

I have really enjoyed my time at ºù«Ӱҵ. I love how committed the School of English is to face to face teaching and I have met great friends. Even though I always thought I would move to London, I am really glad I stayed up north. I have also really enjoyed getting involved in student ambassador and faculty champion work during my time here.

Since being in ºù«Ӱҵ I have been a part of both Forge Press and Liberty Belle where I have developed a love of journalism, I’m hoping to turn it into my career once I graduate. I also love the Student’s Union - especially the Foundry for a night out.

The best thing about ºù«Ӱҵ has been the nightlife, something I have been pleasantly surprised by.

I would advise anyone who is going to be getting their results this summer to create a clearing account prior to results day and shortlist a few backup options for places they would like to study.
