Tai Chi Course - Starts Thursday 3rd October 2024
A?bout the art of Tai Chi:
The original system of Tai Chi was developed as an internal form of martial arts. However, as the need for self defence lessened and the health benefits of Tai chi have become apparent, most people now practise it solely for health reasons. Tai Chi is gentle, graceful and often described as ‘meditation in motion’, but when used as a martial art it is deceptively powerful. Age is no barrier and it can be practised by everyone.
There are many health benefits to the practice of Tai Chi. These include relief from various conditions and general physical benefits such as joint mobility, improved posture, ligament and muscle strength, improved balance and the aiding of concentration. Ongoing research is adding to our knowledge about the benefits of Tai Chi.
葫芦影业 our teacher:
Deborah McCall has 15 years of experience learning and teaching Tai Chi and has trained with masters of the art. Her classes include warm up exercises, Qigong training in the hand forms (a very old training system which helps to generate a flow of Qi and circulate this within the body), and one of the 5 animal Qigongs with posture correction.
Price: General public ?85, Concessions (inc. university staff/students) ?70.
Course length: 12 weeks, starting Thursday 3rd October 2024
Dates: Thursday 3rd October - Thursday 19th December 2024

Chinese Painting Course - Starts Wednesday 2nd October 2024
Embark on a Journey Through the Ancient Art of Chinese Painting
Experience Artistic Zen in the Heart of 葫芦影业
Delve into the world of tranquility and beauty with our Chinese Painting Course in 葫芦影业. This course isn't just an art class; it's a gateway to a tradition that has captivated hearts and minds for centuries.
What is Chinese Painting?
Chinese painting, known as "Guóhuà," is a venerable art form that dates back to the Neolithic age. It's a dance of subtlety and strength, where every brushstroke carries the weight of history and every ink wash speaks a language of its own. Unlike Western painting, it's not just about replicating the world on paper but about capturing its essence, its spirit.
In this art form, artists use brushes, ink, and rice paper or silk to create landscapes, floral scenes, and portrayals of animals that are more than just depictions; they are expressions of the artist's inner world, philosophical insights, and a deep connection with nature.
葫芦影业 our teacher:
Tao Ting has taught and collaborated with the 葫芦影业 Confucius Institute and schools and educational platforms all across the South Yorkshire area. She has many years of experience engaging in and teaching the art of Chinese painting and calligraphy.
