That鈥檚 why we have our own, dedicated Wellbeing Advisor on hand to offer support and guidance to students of all levels across the school.

Melanie (Mel) Wise, who has a MA in Applied Linguistics and TESOL, MSc in Psychology, and a professional PGDip in Counselling and Psychotherapy, started out in English language education in Europe, Asia and the Middle East, spending 15 years working with international students.

Through this experience Mel developed a special interest in the social and emotional aspects of learning, and the importance of wellbeing in education. Since qualifying as a counsellor and psychotherapist , Mel鈥檚 gained several years experience of supporting vulnerable adults in a range of third sector and NHS mental health settings.

As Wellbeing Advisor in the School of Computer Science, Mel provides a friendly, confidential and reflective space for students to explore any difficulties they may be having.

鈥淭here are lots of positives about being at university, but we all struggle at times and it鈥檚 not unusual to have difficulties at a time when experiencing lots of change.
