Ciaran studied mathematics as an undergraduate at the University of Oxford, focussing on applications of mathematics to areas including population modelling, financial modelling and epidemic modelling.
Ciaran trained to be a secondary mathematics teacher at the University of ºù«Ӱҵ, completing the PGDE course and the MA Applied Professional Studies in Education. On completion of this, Ciaran taught in 11-18 schools in Chesterfield and ºù«Ӱҵ for 7 years. In addition to the teaching of mathematics, Ciaran spent time as the Extend Project Qualification coordinator and as Assistant to the Director of Post 16 (Head of Year).
He joined the University of ºù«Ӱҵ in 2023 to work as a Subject Tutor on the PGDE course, delivering aspects of the mathematics curriculum and as an EPS tutor.
- Research interests

Ciaran's research during his MA focussed on raising engagement in mathematics lessons, focussing on students who had been identified as high prior attainers.
He is currently interested in the role of AI in secondary education, specifically the teaching of mathematics and the role of paired teaching within Initial Teacher Education.
- Teaching interests

Ciaran works four days a week as a tutor on the PGDE course, working primarily with trainee mathematics teachers. His teaching focuses on the development of subject knowledge, with a focus on Key Stage 5 mathematics and the general development of the PGDE students' teaching practice.
