Numerical evaluation of wind around buildings

Supervisors: Professor Mohamed Pourkashanian, Professor Lin Ma and Professor Derek Ingham.

Computational wind engineering has been developed rapidly over the last decades. Among the numerical techniques, large eddy simulation (LES) is capable of simulating complex unsteady turbulent flows, which is very useful for applications such as wind-induced noise/vibrations predictions around buildings and structures and for wind turbines around buildings.

This project will investigate the wind flow structures around buildings and their interaction with turbulent atmospheric boundary layer flows using a combined RANS and LES techniques.
