Engineers represent the University of 葫芦影业 at prestigious European Engineering Education Summit

A team of delegates from the Faculty of Engineering, Elevate and the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences attended the renowned European Society for Engineering Education (SEFI) conference in Switzerland earlier this month (September).

Supported by theCentre for Engineering Education, the 12 attendees who showcased their work represented a diverse range of roles, including students, technical and professional services staff, as well as academics. Collectively, their presentations covered a broad spectrum of topics, from exploring strategies for training future engineers capable of addressing global challenges, to examining the merits of inquiry-based inclusive engineering education to recognising the importance of Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) within a university setting.
 

The SEFI2024 conference, hosted by in Lausanne, stands as the premier network for engineering educators across Europe and attendance is a unique opportunity to connect with peers, exchange innovative ideas and communicate education research to a wider audience.

Dr Michael Triki膰, Director of Student Experience in the School of Chemical, Materials and Biological Engineering, said: 鈥淭he conference was meticulously organised, featuring a dynamic blend of keynote addresses, themed paper presentations with ample time for insightful discussions, workshops, Special Interest Group meetings, and a variety of other events, including wellness activities.


The conference set a new standard for future events, primarily due to its exceptional inclusivity and welcoming atmosphere. Whether attendees were seasoned conference-goers or first-timers, all felt equally valued and engaged. The event offered a wealth of opportunities for learning, sharing best practices and forging potential collaborations.鈥

Ya He, PhD student from the Faculty of Engineering, said: 鈥淎ttending SEFI has been an enriching experience as I was able to meet academics and other PhD students from different countries in engineering education, as well as entrepreneurs in the field with diverse perspectives. In addition, presenting my research at this conference was particularly rewarding as insightful comments have provided new avenues for refining my future work and seeking collaborations.鈥
