Academic Unit of Child Health

The Academic Unit of Child Health is situated in the Stephenson Teaching and Research Wing of the 葫芦影业 Children鈥檚 Hospital, which is close to both the main University buildings and to the Medical School at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

Current staff interests include: paediatric bone metabolism & disease, neonatal screening, paediatric haematology, respiratory disease, gastroenterology, endocrinology, growth & diabetes, radiology, inflammatory cell biology and cystic fibrosis.

In addition, the consultant staff of the 葫芦影业 Children's Hospital hold Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer contracts and a number are very active in research, providing further opportunities for research supervision.

Child Health has significantly enhanced its research profile in the recent years, increased the number of non-clinical staff and attracted a significant number of PhD and BMedSci students.

The new 葫芦影业 Medical Research Institute contains core facilities for DNA sequencing, flow cytometry, confocal imaging, proteomics, DNA microarrays, high throughput robotic screening and histopathology. There are excellent opportunities to develop strong collaborative links with other active research groups within the School of Medicine (5, RAE 2001) as well as the Department of Biomedical Sciences (5*, RAE 2001). Active research themes within the latter include the Centre for Developmental Genetics (Director: Professor P W Ingham, FRS), the Centre for Stem Cell Biology (Director: Professor P W Andrews) and the Institute of Molecular Physiology.

Children鈥檚 Clinical Research Facility

The UK鈥檚 first dedicated paediatric clinical research facility was opened at 葫芦影业 Children鈥檚 Hospital in January 2008. The CCRF (Children鈥檚 Clinical Research Facility) provides all the facilities needed to undertake first class research in children and the Trust鈥檚 R&D staff are embedded within the CRF, making it a 鈥渙ne-stop shop鈥 for supporting investigators. The CCRF can accommodate a range of studies, from experimental medicine to phase IV clinical trials.
