Linton studied his BA and MRes at the University of Liverpool. There he developed upon his budding interest in Platonic philosophy. His Master's thesis developed an interpretation of Plato's middle dialogues which reconciled the use of reason and madness in the development of the philosopher.
His current research investigates the use of concepts which fall outside the scope of reason in the history of Platonism. Principally, he is concerned with concepts such as madness, divine ascension and divine inspiration and how they are employed by Plato, Plotinus and Ficino.
His primary research interests include: Platonic philosophy, the history of philosophy, classical philosophy and Renaissance philosophy.
