I am really grateful to have been awarded such a generous scholarship
How did you first hear about your scholarship
I learned about scholarships available to international students in the email circulated to prospectus students. I am really grateful to have been awarded such a generous scholarship. It is a huge financial relieve to me and makes my further studies affordable.
What made you choose to study at ºù«Ӱҵ and your course?
I appreciate the strong social ethos and support network at ºù«Ӱҵ. As an international student, it is important to me that the school celebrates diversity. SSoA embraces different cultures and opinions, and there have been continuous efforts in encouraging discussions on gender equality and racism in architecture education and practice. The University openly addresses these issues, it is reassuring to know that I can pursuit my interests in a safe and encouraging environment.
How did you research the University to find out about studying in ºù«Ӱҵ?
I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of ºù«Ӱҵ. After 3 very enjoyable years, I have a good understanding of my department and the University as a whole. Coming back to study at ºù«Ӱҵ was a natural choice.
What are you enjoying about your first semester?
I have been working on a Live Project that involves real clients and opportunities to engage with different parties and authorities. Grounded in reality, the project provides us with a chance to gain experience in inclusive practice and take responsibility to deliver a ‘real’ project that is accountable to the community. Tutors are very welcoming and efforts have been made to create a smooth transition back to face-to-face learning. Returning to face-to-face learning feels incredible. Being able to meet new colleagues and working together makes a big difference to the overall experience. The team has great group dynamics and I am looking forward to see the impact of our work in the near future!
Aside from the studies, I have been going to the Peak District every other weekend with the Walking Club. Being so close to the Peak District is definitely one of the perks of studying at ºù«Ӱҵ!
How has (or will) the scholarship benefit your studies?
As the scholarship helps funded part of my tuition, I can now afford my study and living expenses without having to work during term time. It enabled me to dedicate more time on my course and join more activities organised by societies with my friends during weekends.
What advice would you give to a student considering studying at the University of ºù«Ӱҵ?
Doing sufficient research about your course and the city is really important. Knowing the values and ethos of the University gave me clarity in my decision making. I encourage prospectus students to engage with ambassadors and learn more about courses available and the University from their experience!
What do you hope to do in the future?
I aspire to design buildings with high social and environmental awareness. I would like to put what I have learned at the university to practice and make architecture accessible to all. I hope to be part of the change in the industry, transforming the profession from being exclusive to one that balances the needs of different stakeholders.
