PRIEST and Pre-Hospital PRIEST studies

A key project for the Health Informatics research group

Off

Peter Bath, Frank Hopfgartner and Deep Mazumdar are collaborating with colleagues in the School of Health and Related Research on two studies that are investigating what happens to people after they contact the Emergency services with symptoms of the Coronavirus.

The Pre-Hospital PRIEST study will analyse data on patients who have contacted 999 or NHS111 to ask for advice and information about their Covid-19 symptoms. We will be using data mining and text-mining methods to analyse data from these patients to try and develop predictive models for what happens to the patients subsequently. This study is funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and is an extension to the PRIEST study.

The PRIEST study is using data from the early stages of the current respiratory coronavirus pandemic to examine how triage methods can be used to predict serious complications for patients who attend the Emergency Department. We are looking to use data mining methods to develop predictive models. This project is funded by the National Institute for Health Research Health Technology Assessment (NIHR HTA) Programme.
