Support for LISM students
As distance learners, those on our MA Library and Information Services Management course are less likely to be on campus to access support services. Here's some handy links to help you get the support you need during your course.
Financial support
Take a look at some handy resources on our additional funding for postgraduate study page, including funding sources like charities.
Health and wellbeing
Mental health guidance liaison desk
If you are worried about your mental wellbeing, you can access tailored support by registering with the student mental health, counselling and therapies service*. After you have registered, you will be contacted by staff, who will provide more information on the remote services we offer.
*Please note that this is not a crisis service. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, our pages on emergency mental health support provides you with some options on where and how you can access immediate care.

Togetherall
As a student, you have free international access to Togetherall, an online mental health community providing 24/7 support from peers and trained counsellors.
Pregnancy and maternity support
You will need to contact our Student Experience Officer Emma Vessey (e.vessey@sheffield.ac.uk) directly to put together a personalised Pregnancy and Maternity Support Plan, which will consider your academic requirements and personal needs. You can find out more, and see a template support plan, on the student handbook (login required).
Disability Liaison Officers
Disability Liaison Officers (DLOs) are members of University staff based in departments who are a designated point of contact for disabled students. Our DLO is Emma Vessey (e.vessey@sheffield.ac.uk), but you can see an up-to-date list of DLOs and more information on the DLO webpages.

Academic support
Personal tutors
Your personal academic tutor is the member of staff assigned to you to oversee your pastoral care and academic progress. Your tutor is available throughout the year, and should be your first point of contact for all advice, information or assistance of an academic or non-academic nature.
How to find your tutor (login required):
-
Log in to MUSE
-
Select My Services at the top of the page.
-
Select view all services to view the A to Z list.
-
Under M, select my record.
Extensions and extenuating circumstances
There are a range of reasons that you may need to apply for a deadline extension - our student support team will do their best to accommodate you. Information on how to apply for extensions and extenuating circumstances can be found on your student handbook. Please note that you will need to be signed in to your MUSE account to access this.
Report and support
If you or someone else experiences any form of discrimination such as harassment, abuse, bullying, or sexual violence that may be based on race, gender, sexuality, disability or other characteristics, you can use the report and support service to inform us of your concerns and access help.
