Julia is a University teacher for the Leonardo Tribology Centre in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. She is also one of the Admissions Tutors and the Widening Participation coordinator for the Department. Julia is a co-director for the , with responsibility for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
Julia’s first degree was in Mechanical Engineering from the University of ºù«Ӱҵ, followed by her PhD on the suitability of bio-lubricants for automotive applications, which was also achieved at ºù«Ӱҵ. Her engineering career began as an apprentice mechanic with BMW.

Julia’s research interests are centred around the wear and friction characteristics of bio-lubricants, their performance in different lubrication regimes and how oxidation affects their overall performance. She has also looked at the elastomer compatibility of bio-lubricants.

Julia teaches Tribology and Sustainable Engineering Design to fourth year undergraduates and MSc students in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. She also teaches Lubrication and Wear to third year degree apprentices at the AMRC Training Centre.
