Creating her own opportunities

Claudia made huge strides in both improving her employability during her time at ºù«Ӱҵ. During her two-week work experience placement at manufacturing company Conspare, she impressed her work experience managers so much that she was invited back for a fourteen-week internship in the company’s HR department.

In addition, Claudia completed a virtual internship with General Electric, and became a mentee with the University eMentoring scheme to learn from our alumni.

During her job at Bella Italia, she took the opportunity to join their employee listening group about rewards and benefits for employees across the whole chain so that she could share her perspective as both a HR student and an employee. As a result of her constructive feedback in the listening group, Claudia was invited to shadow the company’s HR teams at the Bella Italia Head Office.

Being a voice for good

During her studies Claudia has been a dedicated Student Ambassador, where she created videos for YouTube to answer prospective students’ questions about her experiences at ºù«Ӱҵ. Academic Representative for the MSc Human Resources Management, and a Faculty Representative.

As a volunteer Admin Assistant with St Vincent’s Furniture Project, Claudia helped the charity once a week throughout her year of study. She helped cement the charity’s links with the University’s Accommodation Services, resulting in increased furniture donations to the charity as part of the Donate Don’t Waste Scheme.

Claudia’s voluntary role as Publicity Officer for the student-led charity Raise ºù«Ӱҵ gave her an opportunity to hone valuable skills, whilst also contributing to the wider community. She maintained the charity’s social media channels, and at short notice also took on the role of Graphics Officer, which doubled her time commitment. She overcame the hurdle of learning new graphics design skills and grew the Instagram channel to 100 followers, helping the fledgling charity to raise over £4,800 for the Against Malaria Foundation over the academic year.
