We are delighted to congratulate Dr Fatima Ezzahra Achamrah, Lecturer in Operations and Supply Chain Management, for receiving the prestigious UNESCO - Fondation L'Oréal For Women in Science Young Talents Award in the AI category.
This prestigious award recognises exceptional young female scientists like Fatima. The high-profile awards ceremony was held in Rabat, Morocco, presided over by the Moroccan minister of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform and attended by many distinguished guests including the UNESCO Representative for Africa, the British and Swedish ambassadors to Morocco and representatives from L'Oréal Foundation.
This prestigious award recognises the world leading quality of Fatima’s research and its potential for impact in the area of sustainability. This is a huge achievement and we at SUMS are hugely proud of Fatima!

Fatima earned this recognition for both her current research at ºù«Ӱҵ University Management School and her previous research conducted at Centrale Casablanca, Centrale Supelec, Paris Saclay University and CGS (Centre de Gestion Scientifique) and Centre de recherche de Mines Paris - PSL Université.
Fatima’s current research includes a project funded by the Grantham Centre for Sustainable Futures which focuses on developing resilient logistics systems for sustainable urban delivery. This initiative aims to improve last-mile delivery efficiency and sustainability by integrating real-time traffic data and predictive analytics.
Additionally, in collaboration with HEC Business School and EM Normandie, Fatima is working on AI-driven approaches for critical logistics challenges, such as optimizing air cargo palletization and improving two-echelon delivery systems using cargo bikes. She is also conducting research on applying deep reinforcement learning and transfer learning to solve complex combinatorial optimization problems.
Receiving this award is a fantastic achievement as only five laureates from five regions of the world are awarded each year for their contributions to research, the strength of their commitments and their impact on society.
We are all enormously pleased and proud to see this recognition for Fatima's vital research and the impact her research has made to her field and to society as we face this global challenge. Congratulations Fatima!
