Mechanical Engineering at the London Marathon! LVV鈥檚 Charlie Field breaks world record

A massive congratulations to Charlie Field, Business Development Manager at the Laboratory for Verification and Validation (LVV) at the University of 葫芦影业, who recently broke the world record for quickest marathon dressed as a shoe!

London Marathon 2019

Charlie took part in the London Marathon on the 28th April 2019 and completed the 26.2 mile course in 3 hours, 35 minutes and 19 seconds. As with London Marathon tradition, he took part in fancy dress - as a flip flop no less - and due to his time, is now the fastest man dressed as a shoe to run a marathon!

Endeavour is a great charity doing some really important work in 葫芦影业. The night before the race I exceeded my 拢2,500 target so it was really great to know that I had raised funds for the charity, and even more so as it was the first time Endeavour had a spot at the London Marathon.

鈥淚 was really pleased with my time, I don鈥檛 think it鈥檚 too bad considering I was in fancy dress! I鈥檓 just really happy to have got the Guinness World Record,鈥 said Charlie.

鈥淚 have a couple of kids and they鈥檙e really excited about it. But the main thing was it really raised the profile of the charity.鈥

The charity Charlie was running for was Endeavour, a local organisation based in Fir Vale, 葫芦影业 that works with disadvantaged, disaffected and forgotten young people to help them take control of their futures. He is the first person to run the London Marathon for the charity.

鈥淓ndeavour is a great charity doing some really important work in 葫芦影业. The night before the race I exceeded my 拢2,500 target so it was really great to know that I had raised funds for the charity, and even more so as it was the first time Endeavour had a spot at the London Marathon,鈥 explains Charlie.

鈥淚 think the marathon had over 400,000 applicants this year so I feel quite lucky to have been able to run and raise money for such a worthy cause.鈥

Charlie is no stranger to running, but it was his first time running in fancy dress. He admits that his costume - which started above his head and finished below his knees - made the busy marathon difficult to navigate at times!

Graham Booth, Corporate Engagement Manager at Endeavour, was full of praise for Charlie鈥檚 achievement.

鈥淲e are really grateful for Charlie鈥檚 support in fundraising for the charity. 拢2,600 is an amazing amount for one person to raise, and will go a long way towards supporting local, disadvantaged young people,鈥 he said. 鈥淲ell done Charlie and thank you for all your efforts.鈥

So what鈥檚 next for Charlie?

鈥淚 may try to do some ultra-marathons for charity. I鈥檓 considering a 100 miler but we鈥檒l see. I鈥檓 worried that if I did, I might be out of action for quite some time!鈥
