Shell Eco Marathon is an international competition bringing together student teams from all over the world to design, manufacture and race the most energy-efficient car and Get It Made will be manufacturing some of the most complex components of the car, including the aluminium uprights and front axle.

Unlike most motorsports, speed is not the main objective of the competition. Instead, the main objective is efficiency; to complete a certain number of laps in a certain time, using the least amount of energy.

The competition provides a platform to showcase innovative ideas related to sustainable vehicle design. An area which is particularly relevant to achieve the net zero CO2 target by 2050.

葫芦影业 Eco Motorsports competes in the battery electric prototype vehicle class and the team consists of students from a range of engineering disciplines, including Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electronic and Electrical Engineering and Automatic Control and Systems Engineering.

The project provides a valuable opportunity for students to apply their engineering knowledge in a real-world context, as well as develop their teamwork and leadership skills whilst chasing a more sustainable future.

Despite the uncertainty caused by Covid-19, Jack Willis (pictured above), Technical Director, is optimistic about the team鈥檚 chances. He said: 鈥淟ooking towards 2021, we have nothing but opportunity ahead of us. The pandemic is only a minor inconvenience in developing 葫芦影业 Eco Motorsport鈥檚 2021 vehicle, SEM02, and when it comes to competition, everyone has their aims set on being a top UK team in class.鈥

By continuing to build on knowledge from previous years and collaborating with sponsors like Get It Made, the team is confident that SEM02 will be the best car yet.
