Aims of Group Supervision: To provide the trainee with an experience of group supervision To ensure best practice in CBT; including clinical, ethical and evaluative elements To ensure that clinical activity is evidence based and both appropriately delivered and evaluated To ensure the safety of the client To ensure that the trainee is operating with IAPT clinical guidelines. To ensure that clinical competencies are being achieved To ensure appropriate clinical, personal and professional development To appropriately manage the impact of therapy on the therapist To improve declarative and procedural knowledge Structure of the group supervision: Session planning Sessions will take place weekly, for 2 hours at the university in an allocated room, that is consistent across the academic year. Supervisors aim to be consistent across the year. Individual responsibilities within the group Each supervisee will be responsible for: Preparing a case presentation, including scores of MDS and DSM Preparing a clear supervision question Providing video recordings of practice Undertaking between session tasks as agreed Providing feedback to the supervisor and other group members Keeping written records regarding the supervisory process, as needed to fulfil BABCP accreditation requirements and employer policy. The group supervisor will be responsible for: Negotiating the agenda with each supervisee including timings Ensuring continuity between supervisory sessions Providing constructive feedback Keeping written records regarding the supervisory process Regular review of the structure and content of supervision sessions Attending supervision of supervision Content Areas of focus will include: Short-term CBT intervention in line with core competencies informed by case formulation Managing engagement in therapy including appropriate ending of therapy Development, maintenance and ending of the therapeutic alliance The personal impact of therapeutic work on the supervisee Issues of accountability and ethical practice Methods may include: Review of video recording of therapy sessions by supervisor and peers with feedback. Utilising the CTS-R Selection of appropriate treatment techniquesActive methods including role-playCase discussion Increasing declarative knowledgeExamination of personal, (cognitive), processes and the impact of these on therapeutic alliance. Discussion of ethical issues arising from practice Identification of areas appropriate for SP/SRHomework tasks e.g. reading appropriate materialOther methods if appropriateConfidentiality and record-keeping Identifying information of clients will be used within sessions in such a way to ensure anonymity The supervisee is responsible for informing the client that clinical supervision takes place The content of the supervision sessions will remain confidential The process of supervision is taken to a group supervision of supervision in line with good practice. All members are bound by confidentiality. Written notes will be taken and kept by both the supervisee and the supervisor regarding sessions. These will be stored to ensure no breach of confidentiality occurs. Circumstances within which the limits of confidentiality apply, relate to the supervisor's duty of care to clients of the supervisee once information is available to them. Problems If there is a problem within the Group each member is responsible for raising any issues in a respectful and timely manner The issue will be discussed and resolved within the group If the issue cannot be resolved the supervisor will take this to supervision of supervision If the issue is ongoing the supervisor will escalate this to the deputy director of the course If issues of problematic practice arise, they will be dealt with as follows: Discussion and resolution, if possible, between the supervisor and supervisee. If the supervisor considers that the harm, (or potential for harm), may result from the supervisee's practice, then this may warrant breach of confidentiality. The supervisee will be informed if this is the course of action is required. The point of contact will be the supervisee's line manager or the supervisees professional registration body. Similarly, if a problem arises with the supervisors practice which cannot be resolved between the participants, then the first point of contact will be the deputy director of the course.
