ºù«Ӱҵ us
ºù«Ӱҵ Neuroscience Institute brings together internationally-recognised expertise in medicine, science and engineering to improve the lives of patients and families affected by neurological, sensory and developmental disorders.
To deepen our understanding of the nervous system we are collaborating in an interdisciplinary academic environment. Our talented teams are working to advance fundamental neuroscience and harness new discoveries to improve global understanding of how the brain and nervous system function in health and disease.
Our research will help improve prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a range of degenerative, sensory and developmental neurological disorders, including: Alzheimer’s disease, motor neurone disease, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, impaired hearing and vision and chronic pain.
Our expertise span many areas, from single-cell experiments to whole-brain neuroimaging and from modelling of disease to pioneering advanced therapy clinical trials for neurological disorders.
A collaborative and multidisciplinary approach
The institute supports over 100 neuroscientists and their teams from across the University of ºù«Ӱҵ. This broad range of interdisciplinary expertise feeds into our three research pillars:
- Translational neuroscience
- Cognitive neuroscience and mental health
- Sensory and developmental neuroscience
Our collaborative, multidisciplinary approach alongside cutting-edge facilities enables the latest scientific knowledge to be translated into real-world solutions and better outcomes for patients.
Partnerships and connections with the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre and ºù«Ӱҵ Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – one of the largest and most successful University hospitals in the UK – makes ºù«Ӱҵ a world-leading translational neuroscience environment.
We work closely with patients affected by neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, motor neurone disease, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, as well as hearing and visual impairments and chronic pain. Our patients guide our research with their expertise.
Through our strengths in modelling, our extensive range of biosample resources, our innovative technologies and our work with patients, we are able to attract and collaborate with other world-leading institutes and industrial partners. Embedding academic excellence within these partnerships ensures that our work generates maximum value and impact.
