The application form lists all the projects available and you should select up to three projects, in order of preference.

All sections of the application form will need to be completed in order to be considered for a DLA place.

Each project has a code that is included in the FindAPhD advert and you should select a start date of 1 October 2025.

For projects in mathematics and statistics, refer to our guidance on project types and relevant codes.

The competition is now open and will close for applications at 5pm UK time on Wednesday 29 January 2025.

Interviews for shortlisted candidates are expected to take place in the week commencing 3 March 2025

ºù«Ӱҵ is committed to diversifying the recruitment process by considering your research potential alongside your prior academic attainment, regardless of your background or future trajectory.

If you have the potential to carry out research, we want to hear from you.

The selection process will be undertaken using a common set of core competencies.

Mathematics and statistics project types

When completing your application and making your selection for projects in mathematics and statistics, the process differs slightly, depending on if you're writing your own research proposal (student-led), applying for a supervisor-led project, or a combination of both.

  • Student-led projects: quote the application code S3.5-MPS-Open and include the name of the proposed supervisor in your application.
  • Supervisor-led projects: quote the relevant DLA project code(s).
  • Combination of student-led and supervisor-led projects: quote S3.5-MPS-Open and the relevant project code(s).

This information only applies to projects in mathematics and statistics.
