What is Elevate?

Elevate provides support and opportunities for all staff who teach and support learning to engage in professional development. 

Through enhancing teaching practice at the individual and programme levels, Elevate contributes to a high-quality learning experience for all students.


What development opportunities are available? 

Advice and support

  • Written guidance to support your teaching practice, on topics such as assessment and feedback, digital accessibility, personal tutoring, using digital tools in the classroom and teaching sensitive topics.
  • 'Getting Started guides' with key information for new starters on essential learning and teaching topics.
  • A regular programme of workshops and events.
  • 1:1 consultations on any aspect of learning and teaching, eg assessment design, ideas for teaching activities, support to use digital learning tools. 
  • Comprehensive user guides for the University's digital learning tools, and support from the digital learning helpdesk.
  • Support for curriculum development for departments and programme teams.

Community

  • Communities of practice to network with staff with shared interests (eg immersive technologies, employability).
  • Opportunities to share your practice through our blog, conferences and scholarship of teaching and learning network.
  • Peer support for your teaching through mentoring, peer observation or small group development sessions.

Recognition

  • Support to gain Higher Education Academy (HEA) professional recognition for your work via our internal accredited scheme.
  • Elevate activities align with the University’s Academic Career Pathways to support your career development.
  • Students and staff can nominate colleagues for the Vice Chancellor's Awards for Learning and Teaching.
  • Support to apply for national teaching awards, eg National Teaching Fellowships (NTF) and Collaborative Awards for Teaching Excellence (CATE).

Structured development opportunities

  • Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching for Learning in Higher Education (PGCertTLHE)  aimed at supporting the initial professional development of early-career teachers.

Specialised support for Graduate Teaching Assistants or PhD students who teach 

  • In-depth standalone workshops around specific aspects of learning and teaching
  • Monthly networking/social drop-in and online community
  • Structured pathway to Higher Education Academy (HEA) recognition at Associate Fellow
