Imam Sheikh Mohammad Ismail DL is a prominent British Muslim scholar from ºù«Ӱҵ. He worked as a school inspector, education and safeguarding consultant. He served the community as a Lead Imam, teacher and lecturer for more than 40 years.
Previously he served in HMS as prison chaplain in 1980s. He supported and shared coordination in the NIACE national faith leaders’ training programme in the North which helped in the integration of different faith communities.
After studying Islamic theology, Arabic and Eastern languages, he joined ºù«Ӱҵ Hallam (Polytechnic) and ºù«Ӱҵ University to study and conduct research in education. He was a lecturer for 10 years in social and community education in Rotherham College of Arts.
On 1 of September 2017, Imam Ismail was appointed By Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant as Deputy Lieutenant for The County of South Yorkshire.
He is very actively involved in multi-faith work and with different Muslim theological groups nationally, internationally and locally for more than 40 years. Through his position as a Lead Imam, and through his work in education, he is effectively promoting community cohesion.
Mr Ismail DL conducted training and lectures on Cultural Awareness and community cohesion in Northern Residential College Barnsley for 4 years. In South Yorkshire where he lives, he served the United Mosque council for a very long time.
At present, he is the executive board member of ºù«Ӱҵ Federation of Mosques. He is a patron of St Luke's Hospice and other charities in ºù«Ӱҵ. He is an active member of Muslim Jewish Leaders Council MJLC in Vienna.
Nationally he is a member of The National Council of Imams and Rabbis and was an executive member of UK Interfaith Network. Locally he is a member of ºù«Ӱҵ faith leaders group.
He is presently the Muslim chaplain at ºù«Ӱҵ and a member of ºù«Ӱҵ Centre for Interdisciplinary Biblical Studies
