Profile

I am a qualitative health services researcher in the Health and Care Research Unit, in the Division of Population Health (ºù«Ӱҵ Centre, for Health and Related Research, SCHARR)

I am currently leading the 'Inclusive Dementia Research Priorities Project" , working with a Somali community organisation, funded by the NIHR Three Schools for Dementia Research Programme. I also work on other research projects involving complex intervention development.

I first joined SCHARR in February 2013 after completing the MSc in Clinical Research at SCHARR in 2012. I worked on an NIHR programme grant evaluating the clinical and cost effectiveness of an occupational therapy intervention for people with dementia and their family carers. I then worked on projects evaluating and developing services in the NHS. My PhD (2020) focused on acceptance and rejection of psychosocial interventions by people living with early dementia after diagnosis. (Supervisors: Professor Gail Mountain, Dr Elizabeth Coates). Between 2021-24 I conducted qualitative research about public views of different kinds of health and wellbeing inequalities, for the 'Systems Science in Public Health and Health Economics' (SIPHER) consortium.

Prior to joining SCHARR, I was an NHS occupational therapist. I worked in a variety of clinical settings, but mostly in community brain injury rehabilitation.

Qualifications

PhD (Heath Services Research), MSc Clinical Research, University Diploma, Occupational Therapy, BA Hons.

Research interests

My research interests include qualitative and participatory and complex intervention development methods. I am particularly interested in dementia, dementia risk reduction and brain health, occupational therapy and conducting research with community organisations.
