ºù«Ӱҵ the course

This short course will focus on the processes surrounding the set up of a clinical trial, from the point at which funding has been awarded to opening the first research sites. Through a combination of online teaching, group and individual activities, you will be taken through a practical step by step guide on the processes and dependencies in trial set up. To enhance the experience of the course we recommend you come with a project in mind (although examples will be given throughout for those who are new to research/clinical trials).

Who will benefit from the course?

The course is ideal for researchers from across the UK looking to manage or oversee a clinical trial (within the NHS). The general skills and processes are also applicable to research with human participants outside of the NHS. Research assistants, new trial managers, PhD students, research fellows and associates, among others, would all benefit from the knowledge and skills learnt during the course. Please note that this course is aimed at those working on UK-based clinical trials due to the UK's unique framework of rules.

Course facilitators

The course will be taught by experienced staff from ºù«Ӱҵ Clinical Trials Research Unit (CTRU), a UKCRC registered clinical trials unit. As well as specialist experience of delivering trials of complex interventions, the unit delivers research across a diverse range of healthcare conditions. The fee for this course is £450 per person.

Current University of ºù«Ӱҵ staff and students are eligible to book at a reduced rate of £380. An active @sheffield.ac.uk email address is required to book at this reduced rate.

Course delivery and requirements

This course will be delivered using the University's 'Blackboard' platform. Participants must have a basic level of knowledge of health economic modelling in order to follow the course.

Requirements:

Reliable and stable internet connection. A PC or laptop Webcam and microphone (preferably a USB headset) Preferably a quiet room where there will be no/minimal disruption. Ability to access Google applications (e.g. Google Docs, Google Sites, Google Sheets).
