ºù«Ӱҵ the course

An evidence synthesis approach that has emerged and is growing in use are scoping, mapping evidence gap maps (EGMs) reviews. These are new tools, which complement existing approaches in the family of systematic methods of reviewing evidence. This one day, online short course provides attendees with an understanding of the underpinning methodological frameworks for these reviews, question formulation, stakeholder engagement, protocol development, search strategies, data extraction, describing findings and visualisation and dissemination of results. It has been designed for those wishing to use, or support others using this methodology. Some understanding of systematic review methods would be useful. Teaching will be delivered by researchers actively using these methodologies to support decision making.

Learning outcomes

The purpose of this short course is to introduce attendees to the methods underpinning these 'big picture' review types and how they differ from other types of evidence synthesis. Developing search strategies, data extraction and coding tools will be covered, as well as using EPPI-Reviewer and EPPI-Mapper to create Evidence and Gap Maps. The course will consist of presentations, and practical interactive exercises delivered online. There will be an opportunity to create a framework and generate an EGM. The course tutors will draw on examples of their own work and and there will be opportunities for attendees to discuss their own projects with the course tutors.
