I am a clinician scientist motivated by the needs of people living with diabetes.
I developed a passion for research during my intercalated BSc in the Medical Sciences with Haematology at Imperial College London. I completed my undergraduate training at Newcastle Medical School graduating with distinction and overall honours (distinction in all clinical undergraduate examinations and the Goyder Memorial Scholarship awarded to the best final year student).
I then undertook seamless clinical-academic training, first as an Academic Foundation Trainee in Endocrinology at the University of Bristol before moving to ºù«Ӱҵ as an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow in Diabetes and Endocrinology. This led to a Medical Research Council (MRC) Clinical Research Training Fellowship to pursue a PhD at the University of ºù«Ӱҵ. Following this, I completed specialty training in Diabetes and Endocrinology in ºù«Ӱҵ as an NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer.
I am currently a Senior Clinical Lecturer and an Honorary Consultant Physician at the University of ºù«Ӱҵ and ºù«Ӱҵ Teaching Hospitals. My clinical interests are in managing problematic hypoglycaemia and the use of novel technologies in managing type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
- Research interests
-
I am interested in exploring mechanisms whereby hypoglycaemia might lead to progression of atherosclerosis and mortality. I am also interested in clinical research which employs use of novel diabetes technologies in treating problematic hypoglycaemia.
