Biosciences: Do we need to live with cancer?
Event details
Description
Join Professor Carl Smythe in exploring where the truth about cancer lies. You'll also have the opportunity to meet current Biosciences students and learn more about life at the University of ºù«Ӱҵ.
Do we need to live with cancer?
One in two of us will get cancer at some point in our lifetime. This seems strange given that the richest nations in the world have spent billions trying to cure cancer.
Have we lost the battle against cancer?
If you were to read articles online, you might believe that almost everything either causes cancer, or is a cure for it. The conspiracists would have you believe some obscure doctor has the absolute cure, but was abducted by Big Pharma before they could reveal all.
So, where does the truth about cancer lie, and how might we recognise what constitutes good scientific research on the topic?
This session is suitable for students in years 12 and 13.
