Description

Join Dr Miriam Hobson, as they explore how the decolonisation of the curriculum is changing the way we study the Soviet Union as we shift from focusing on Russian experiences to other areas of the Soviet Union in Central Asia and the Caucasus

Russian or Soviet history? Thinking about empire and revolution.

Universities have been thinking hard about how to ‘decolonise’ the curriculum and to challenge Eurocentric approaches.

How does this affect how we study the Soviet Union?

How does our understanding of key events shift if we move from thinking about the Russian experience to the other areas of the Soviet Union, such as Central Asia and the Caucasus?

This session is suitable for students in years 12 and 13.

It gives you the opportunity to try out a university style lesson, talk to staff in the department and ask current students doing the subject you are interested in about their courses and university life.
