Description

Join the Department of Psychology for this taster session, where you'll be introduced to the mental processes that underpin addiction, learn about how we research it, and explore how we can improve care and support for those affected.

The Psychology of Addiction

Addiction is a difficult problem faced by many in our society and can lead to devastating outcomes for both the sufferer and those around them.

But why do some people seem more prone to addiction than others?

And, with addictions centring around things as varied as gambling and drugs, to food and shopping, can there really be a common psychological mechanism underpinning them all?

Join Professor Matt Field, an expert in the psychology of addiction, for this lecture exploring how addiction starts and what we can do to better help people who suffer with it.

You’ll also hear from current students about being a psychology student at the University of ºù«Ӱҵ, and learn more about where a degree in psychology can take you.

This session is suitable for students in years 12 and 13.
