Oral and Head & Neck cancers have a devastating impact on the lives of patients and their families. Many of these are detected late, and this is linked to a high mortality rate without the improvements seen in survival for many other cancers. The School’s researchers – who include basic scientists (with expertise in cell/molecular biology, cell culture and tissue engineering) and academic clinical diagnostic oral pathologists - investigate improved detection and diagnosis, including the role of  tumour microenvironment, cell-cell communication and biochemistry in cancer progression.
