We want to better understand what prompts people to reduce their consumption of meat and other animal products in the first place, and what helps and hinders in these changes becoming an established part of their day-to-day routines.

The project
There is an emerging scientific consensus that achieving a healthy and sustainable food system will require profound changes in how people routinely eat, specifically increasing the proportion of plant-based foods they consume and reducing the proportion of animal products.
Many people have already made these changes, or are in the process of doing so.
Our research aims to learn from their experiences. We want to better understand what prompts people to reduce their consumption of meat and other animal products in the first place, and what helps and hinders in these changes becoming an established part of their day-to-day routines.
To help us answer these questions, we are first carrying out a short online survey. We will then spend time working more closely with individuals and households, seeing first-hand how they buy, prepare and eat food, and talking about the issues that are important to them.
