Thesis Title: Japan’s foreign policy towards China in the 21st century: shifts in the grand strategy
Academic Supervisors: Prof Hugo Dobson, Dr Hiro Wantanabe
The dissertation analyses Japan’s diplomatic strategy towards China by comparing and constrasting two periods of Sino-Japanese relations – under the Democratic Party of Japan and under the current leadership of Shinzo Abe.
Exploring both the relationship between China and Japan, and Japan’s ties with other countries, the dissertation aims to understand what Japan’s approach to China was, as well as why and how it changed.
