Director of the Centre for Machine Intelligence & Opteran Founder Science Officer, Prof James Marshall, will be a keynote speaker at the UN's AI for Good Global Summit 2025, taking place in Geneva, Switzerland from 8-11 July. This leading United Nations event, organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in collaboration with over 40 UN agencies and the Government of Switzerland, brings together global leaders and innovators to explore AI-driven solutions for critical global challenges, including climate change and inequality.
Prof. Marshall will present on Natural Intelligence, an alternative approach to AI for machine autonomy that prioritises efficiency, adaptability, and sustainability. While modern AI systems for robots and autonomous systems often depend on vast amounts of data, intensive training, and power-hungry data centres, Natural Intelligence offers a radically different path - one that is lightweight, evolved for real-world applications, and designed with sustainability in mind. This approach has been pioneered for commercial applications by University of ºù«Ӱҵ spinout .
His participation underscores CMI’s commitment to advancing AI research that aligns with global sustainability goals. By bringing diverse perspectives to the conversation, the AI for Good Global Summit aims to shape inclusive AI standards, build essential skills, and drive governance frameworks that move from principles to action.
