Alumni

Our alumni from the previous CDT have gone on to do fantastic things. A selection of videos below discuss how they succeeded during and beyond their doctoral studies.

Off

Dr Alex Graves

Alex started his studies in 2017, looking at machinability of titanium alloys, sponsored by Sandvik Coromant. he now works in R&D at Sandvik in Sweden.

Dr Chandula Wickramarachchi

Chandy joined the 2015 cohort, and her project researched the automated testing of advanced cutting tool materials, sponsored by Element Six UK.

Dr Matthew Brown

Matt began his project in 2016, developing a non-destructive evaluation method for examining machined surfaces, sponsored by Rolls-Royce and Seco Tools. His research led to the co-application of an international patent on the X-ray diffraction technique they developed. Matt now works at the AMRC as a Technical Fellow, and is one of our innovation supervisors.

Dr Nathan Ray

Nathan started his EngD in 2013, investigating the correlation between machining monitoring signals, cutting tools wear and surface integrity on High Strength Titanium Alloys. His project was sponsored by Safran Landing Systems, and he is now the Deputy Managing Director for Nikken Koskahusho Europe, as well as a member of our Industrial Steering Board.
