- Profile
-
Dr Stillman took BSc and PhD degrees at ºù«Ӱҵ before taking up her lectureship in 1987. Her main research interests lie in the practical application of statistics to geology and materials science. A long term concern has been the modelling of particle size, with investigations into its relationship with sediment transport processes and strength of composite materials. Other recent projects include the use of classification methods in pollen analysis, the design of resistant glazes and the modelling, monitoring and control of manufacturing processes. She is also interested in statistical education and has published computer-assisted-learning materials and on the school-university transition as well as serving on the University's Maths and Stats Help (MASH) steering committee. She is involved in both the local and national activities of the Royal Statistical Society and is a Chartered Statistician. She is also an active Associate Consultant to our Statistical Services Unit, mainly in the areas of training and ethical review.
