Pete Hart (MASH Team Leader)
I joined the MASH team in 2020 and I have been the team leader since April 2023. I'm extremely proud of the wonderful MASH team, we're here to help when you need us!
Before joining the University, I worked teaching maths at school and sixth form level. This experience taught me a great deal about helping learners of all ages. Maths and statistics are fascinating subjects but one where a little extra help can go a long way. At MASH, we aim to provide friendly and patient assistance to anyone who might need it.

I started work as an Academic Skills Advisor for MASH in September 2022. Prior to that I have built up a wealth of experience teaching in many different contexts - University, Secondary schools, Primary schools, Private Tuition and Adult Education.
I gained a PhD in Pure Mathematics in 2010 from the University of Loughborough. It is through a fascination for how things work and seeing Mathematics as the language in which we can best have that conversation that led me to this point. Treating Mathematics as a language has been a principle I have maintained throughout my teaching. I hope my enthusiasm for Mathematics is infectious, I love to teach with humour! No one should feel excluded from any part of their education because of any Mathematical barriers that arise. Helping students overcome those barriers and seeing the pride and sense of achievement that often brings is the best feeling as a teacher.

I started working as an Academic Skills Advisor in July 2023, after joining the MASH team as a Tutor in 2022. I'm also a Mathematical Ecology PhD student in SoMaS, using applied maths techniques to understand the behaviour of seabirds, and I've been a GTA there since 2019, teaching on a range of mathematical modules in SoMaS and Engineering. I love working at MASH, and supporting students from across the University.

I joined the MASH team in September 2023 as an Academic Skills Advisor. Prior to that I worked in ScHARR within the University of ºù«Ӱҵ, as a Statistician on clinical trials. During my previous role, I taught on several medical statistics modules, running tutorials and drop-in sessions. This gave me a great insight into the support that students need whilst studying maths and statistics at university, and how best to provide this. I thoroughly enjoy engaging with students, particularly by improving their personal experience of studying maths.
