Discovering a love of Psychology
BSc Psychology
Bryony loved the wide variety of content, covering all the different areas of psychology that she was able to study at ºù«Ӱҵ. By gaining this exposure, Bryony was confident in choosing the modules she would enjoy the most when it came to specialising in third year.

What made you want to study your course?

I particularly enjoyed Psychology at A-Level. It was the subject I clicked with the most, so I decided to do some psychology-related work experience in the summer between my A-Level studies as a Remote Research Assistant for a month, which I absolutely loved! This really then swayed me towards studying Psychology at university.

What made you decide to study at the University of ºù«Ӱҵ?

I attended an open day at the university and spoke to some members of staff as well as students and out of everywhere I had visited, both the staff and students at ºù«Ӱҵ were the most friendly, welcoming and accommodating - I had many questions about the city and the course and they were willing to answer all of them, which made me feel very comfortable.

What have you enjoyed most about your course so far?

The variety of skills I have gained from the course, particularly in relation to research methods - becoming competent on SPSS, conducting a thematic analysis and being able to transcribe correctly, just to name a few! I have also particularly enjoyed the Social Psychology content, in particular the content on social cognition models such as the theory of planned behaviour and reasoned action approach and how they relate to health behaviours - this is something I am hoping to go on to pursue a PhD in later in my academic career.

What skills have you developed during your course?

The Psychology BSc has provided me with a variety of different skills including developing my critical evaluation and essay writing skills, as well as gaining confidence in conducting data analyses on SPSS. The course also has a variety of different assessment formats such as essays, applied work (e.g., writing a letter to a "patient"), lab reports, posters and research projects so you become familiar with different writing styles and formats.

What would you say to a student thinking about studying your course at ºù«Ӱҵ?

Do it! You won't regret it. The staff on the course are so helpful and friendly. The course is also brilliant too, there is a lot of content that is for sure but there is a variety of content from all different areas of Psychology, which is what I found so interesting. This also really helped me when it came to picking my final year modules, as over the first two years there was so much different content, which allowed me to then be able to sit back and think about what I enjoyed the most.

What are you planning to do after your degree?

I have applied for the Psychological Research Methods MSc at the University of ºù«Ӱҵ. After that I hope to do a PhD in Psychology, specifically Social Psychology and then pursue a career in academia and research.
